Why Do the Bottoms of My Feet Hurt So Bad?

Your feet bear the weight of your body day in and day out. So it’s no wonder that people often experience foot pain, especially in the heels, balls, and arches. What could be causing pain in the bottoms of your feet? At Chiropractic of Bellevue, we’ve put together some information on conditions that may cause foot pain.

Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fascia runs through your foot and connects the heel with the toes. It’s a thick band of tissue that can become irritated or inflamed from heavy activity such as running. This can result in a sharp, stabbing pain that is most often felt in the heel.

Heel Spurs

Over time, calcium deposits can build up underneath your heel bone. This can result in body protrusions known as heel spurs. If you have heel spurs, you may have a difficult time placing any weight on the affected heel. Heel spurs are a leading cause of foot pain, especially when walking or running.

Fallen Arches

Broken bones, damaged tendons, or improper footwear can result in fallen arches. Also, aging can cause the tendons that support your arches to lose elasticity, in which case you will become flat-footed. Without adequate support, your arches cannot absorb shock and will leave you unable to stand for long periods. Flat feet are also more susceptible to certain injuries.

Stress Fractures

Micro-traumas can cause tiny breaks in the bones of your feet. Known as stress fractures, these breaks can cause foot pain, especially when there is pressure on your feet. Physicians often recommend rest and conservative treatments such as adjustments from a chiropractor to help deal with the pain.
