What Pressure Point Relieves a Headache?

For most people, finding relief from migraines means reaching for a bottle of pills. At Chiropractic of Bellevue, we believe in promoting natural, drug-free healing. The next time you are experiencing the pain of a migraine or a stubborn headache, consider using the power of the following three headache busting pressure points.

Three Pressure Points You Can Use to Control Headaches

Stop tension headaches with these easily self-administered pressure points right on your hand. You can find this point, sometimes referred to as Union Valley, by squeezing your thumb and index finger together and finding the highest part of the ridge that forms between them. Once you find it, relax your hand and pinch that point with the other hand firmly, but not enough to cause pain for ten seconds. Release and then use the opposite index finger to rub the point in a small circle ten times in each direction. Repeat with the other hand.

The Gates of Consciousness are two points found in the small depressions on either side of your spine at the base of your head. Interlock your fingers and place them against the back of your head. Use your thumbs to probe for a tender area in each of the depressions. When you find the correct spot, apply firm, steady pressure for two to three minutes. You may want to lean your head back slightly to open the points up for better results. Use this technique to help relieve any stiffness of the neck that may lead to headaches.

The answer to your headaches may be as close as the nose on your face. There are two small indentations on either side of the bridge of your nose where it meets your brow. Here, you can find the Drilling Bamboo points. Place both of your thumbs in this hollow so that your pinkies are pointed up to the sky. Apply firm, steady pressure for two to three minutes. These points can help with sinus headaches and allow you to eliminate excess mucous.
