Physiotherapy FAQs

Physiotherapy is physical therapy treatment to maintain and restore function, mobility, and well-being. At Chiropractic of Bellevue, we provide physiotherapy to help our patients recover from injury. Below are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about physiotherapy and how it can help you.

When Should You Get Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy can be helpful if you have chronic pain or an injury that affects your everyday life. You may get referred to a physical therapist or chiropractor after certain types of surgery, such as a hip replacement, or a health event, such as a stroke or heart attack.

What Issues Can Physiotherapy Treat?

Physiotherapy focuses on both rehabilitation and prevention. Treatment can be for issues caused by a disability, disease, or injury. Some examples include back and neck pain, problems in the ligaments, muscles, bones, or joints, lung problems such as asthma, heat problems, pelvic issues, loss of mobility, or loss of muscle strength that comes from cancer treatment.

What Can You Expect from a Physiotherapy Session?

Each patient’s session is going to be unique. Physiotherapy treatment is focused on you and your needs. In general, the physiotherapists learn about your medical history and then diagnose and assess your condition. You then get treatment that has goals that are designed for you. You will be prescribed assistive devices as needed and exercise to reach your goals.

Is Physiotherapy Painful?

The process shouldn’t hurt and is safe. Often, physiotherapy activates deep tissue, so it is possible to have some soreness after treatment since deep tissue work and stretching can cause temporary soreness. Getting better does require hard work.

Can Physiotherapy Eliminate Your Pain for Good?

In a majority of situations, physiotherapy can help to eliminate pain permanently. Our physiotherapists can help guide you through steps so that you can remain pain free in the future and fix the motions or patterns that caused pain to begin with.

How Often Do You Need to Go to Physiotherapy and for How Long?

Every situation is different. Some will only need about three visits while others may need to have treatment for years. The goal is to provide a long-term solution to pain.
