Are You Experiencing Car Accident Pain Days Later?

Have you recently been involved in a car accident? If so, and if you didn't have any immediately obvious injuries after the fact, then you probably assumed you were fine. Unfortunately, many injuries related to car accidents can take days to show symptoms. For this reason, it's important to be aware of the common injuries, along with their related symptoms that you should be on the lookout for after an accident.Young man after a car accident in Bellevue WA

Headaches or Migraines

If you rarely experience headaches or migraines but suddenly find yourself suffering from them with increased frequency after your accident, then it's time to see a doctor. This symptom could be the sign of any number of injuries, ranging from a concussion to a blood clot.

Neck, Shoulder, or Back Pain

One of the most common symptoms people tend to report in the days following a car accident is that of neck, shoulder, and/or back pain. This pain may be anywhere from a dull ache to a severe, sharp pain that radiates throughout the body when you cough or sneeze. Often times, this type of pain is a result of a condition known as whiplash, which occurs when the tendons in the neck or back are torn. In order to have this properly diagnosed, you should see a doctor for X-rays or possibly a CT scan.

Inexplicable Numbness

Are you suddenly experiencing numbness or tingling in the arms, hands, or legs in the days following your car accident? If so, then this could be yet another sign of a whiplash injury or, in some cases, other trauma to the neck or spinal column. It is important that you see a doctor as soon as possible for the proper diagnosis and treatment.

Abdominal Pain or Swelling

Any time you experience abdominal pain and/or swelling after a car accident, this is something that needs to be taken very seriously. In some cases, this could be indicative of internal bleeding, which could be fatal if not caught soon enough.

When to See a Chiropractor

These are just a few of the most commonly reported symptoms following a car accident, along with their related injuries. For many of these injuries, seeking chiropractic care in conjunction with your primary physician's care could be the best course of action. A chiropractor, for example, can perform services such as massage therapy and spinal adjustments to help relieve your pain and treat your injuries.
