Curing the Bloat | Bellevue Chiropractors

Cures for feeling bloated Every month woman are at a good risk of feeling "bloaty", puffy, gassy and whatnot.  Men of course get these symptoms as well. They are no fun. There are things one can do though to knock out the bloatiness feeling.

Add more fluids. Drink lots of water, teas or juices. The body has no choice but to start pushing things out the body as liquid is added. When we have kidney stones they tell us to drink water and cranberry juice. The juice is acidic and breaks down the stone and water helps move things along at a fast pace.  I myself have never tried it with patients but I would be that drinking water all day long, at every opportunity one would cut the suffering time of feeling bloated by 60-90%.  Water hydrates your body but it also is like fuel and it kicks the body into gear to fix itself. That's a premise of Chiropractic - that a body, on its own, with proper food and nutrition and in proper alignment can heal itself.

Being active is also a good way to combat the bloat. Exercise and moving around gets the body in motion, gets the blood flowing, gets the digestive systems working and can be helpful in working things out - if you get my drift.

Fruit and vegetable intake is a huge factor in eliminating "bloaty" feelings. Fruits and veggies contain a ton of good vitamins and nutrients and are always a good combatant to fight bloated feelings. Potassium loaded foods like tomatoes are great for combating that puffed up feeling.

Drink tea. Tea is just another form of water but there are many types of teas that one can take to fight bloating. Many acupuncturists/herbalists make special concoctions of tea and it is indeed a very old Asian custom to use teas to heal ailments.  At a store like WholeFoods they have peppermint teas, green teas, and other teas engineered to help with constipation, bloating, cramps and even sleeping. Teas are a great, natural way to heal yourself.

Stay away from salts, breads, nuts and various foods that absorb water and cause water retention. Having a heavily salty meal (potato chips or french fries) can add on 2-3 pounds of weight and shut down the digestive track. Your intestines, stomach, liver, pancreas, glands all need water to work. There are certain foods and spices that "soak" up the water in the body and shut the body down.
