One of the biggest areas that Chiropractic doctors work on are the hips and, in particular, the Sacroiliac Joints. There are two joints, one on either side of the hips.
The Sacrum is the bottom vertabrae portion of the spine and the spine is joined to the "iliums" by the Sacro-iliac joints.
These joints are very, very tough and endure a lot of impact and force and I deem them the most important joints in the whole body. Sure, I adjust the other joints and vertabrae but without the SI Joints there is not a whole lot a human being can do or endure.
Standing requires the use of the SI Joint. Sitting requires use of the SI Joint. Getting up, getting down, dancing, walking, etc all demand a healthy SI Joint in order to get work done without incident of pain.
And contrary to popular belief there is no patching up the SI Joint once it is permanently damaged.
Chiropractic work - for the most part is preventive. We treat people's pain 80-90% of the time but as the patient progresses we always want them to work in the direction of coming in on a routine basis (not frequently - just routinely) in order to maintain health and avoid the common problems one may have from aging.
It's nice to live a long life but a long life only has value if there it is lived without constant pain and discomfort. A lot of the work I do in Chiropractic is merely to maintain and strengthen what the patient has and prevent further loss of mobility, strength and mental clarity.
There is a whole branch of Chiropractic that only treats the SI Joints/Sacrum and the Occipital regions of the spine as it is believed that these two regions, adjusted back into proper alignment, will set the rest of the body back into proper working order. I've received such treatment and there is definite merit in treating just these two areas. A lot of betterment can be done by treating these two areas of the musculoskeletal structure of the body.
If you have lower back pain, leg numbness, leg tingling, sciatica, mid back pain, shooting pains down the leg, bowel problems, or trouble walking, chances are the SI Joint is in desperate need of a Chiropractic Adjustment.
Call your Chiropractor today and get your Sacroiliac Joints checked out - it's worth the time, money and energy to ensure these joints are healthy, strong and well-maintained.
