How often to go to a Chiropractor?

Here at my office if a patient is just starting out and has a serious injury...I will want them to come in 2-3 times a week for 2-3 weeks and then gradually I will try and back them down to one time a week then one time a month etc until the person is feeling stably better.

I usually recommend patients come in at least once a month even after recovery as this allows them to get into a maintenance situation and makes them less prone to re-experience more accidents, illness, etc.

But there are patients who I saw intensively at one time who merely drop in 1-2 times a year just to feel better when the need arises.  A patient came in last week who I hadn't seen in 3 years.  She wasn't feeling kosher all of a sudden so just came in.  And that is okay with me.

One's age and physical condition also affects frequency of visits.  An elderly person over 90 should come in the office at least once a week in order to relieve all the stress and pain that occurs to the body due to the less active life-style most tend to have later in life and the frequency of small injuries.

An athlete, in good shape, who is involved in a non-impact type sport like swimming may need to come in less frequently than an athlete who does martial arts or football.

The Chiropractor will recommend your frequency of visits and you have the choice to stick to that regimen or not.  Most Chiropractors are not interested in seeing a patient to infinity and beyond. They merely want the patient to get better and then move onto a maintenance program.

Just like a car...we have to maintain our body and put it back into working order from time to time.  You can't expect your car to run and run for thousands of miles without an oil change or a battery change or tune up of some kind.  The same is true for the body.  Left unattended...it tends to accumulate the trauma of pain and injury and then can start to go rapidly downhill.
