What should I know about visiting the Chiropractor?

The first thing to know about visiting the Chiropractor is that he/she is there to help you. Most Chiropractors got into the field of Chiropractic because they are excited to be able to help people with their problems in a safe and natural way.

The second thing to know about visiting the Chiropractor is that you should expect great changes. The Chiropractor is adjusting your spinal, musculoskeletal and nervous system so that your body will function as it was naturally intended.  Once things are aligned and functioning you should expect to start feeling much better.  At my office I frequently hear patients say that their visit to the office is one of the best things they look forward to all month.  Minus the back pain, pinched nerves, neck spasms, etc a patient really feels so much better.

The third thing to know is that there is nothing done in Chiropractic that is going to be harmful to you.  If you have a pre-existing, major injury (such as a broken bone) then of course any movement is going to hurt but otherwise...you are in safe hands.

The fourth thing to know is that you must keep the communication to your doctor open so that he/she is informed of everything that is going on and how you are feeling.  Anything you say to your Chiropractor is confidential.  Anything you say can help the Chiropractor better address your overall health. So communicate your aches, pains, sensations to the Chiropractor so he/she can do something about it.

The fifth thing to know is that everyone heals at a different pace.  Don't be discouraged if after the first visit you feel only a little better.  Some conditions take a vigorous and intensive approach and don't heal overnight.  Many patients respond immediately and feel better but that's not always the case.  Be sure to let your doctor know about what you are wanting and needing from your visit so he can know what you're needing and expecting and can help you get there.
