Would you send a child with horrible scoliosis to the Chiropractor or the specialist first?

Being that I am a Chiropractor it may sound like I have a vested interest in stating that the child should always go to the Chiropractor first. However, I would like to back up my reasons solely as a parent, not as a Chiropractor.

When I was a child, I had a horrible hip condition going on which caused my feet to turn inward and made it difficult for me to have balance or be good at sports.  My parents searched around for a specialist and almost all of them went in the direction of extensive and invasive surgery which had a lot of side effects and risks involved.  In the end they opted for a Chiropractor because it was natural and because it didn't put their child at risk of further complications, pain, medication and surgery.

I got better naturally and the expense on them was not thousands and thousands of dollars as surgery would have been but merely a few hundred dollars for my 10 or so visits.

As parents we want our children to be healthy, active and happy.  Going under the knife or taking medication is always an option but the side effects can (possibly) end up being an unhealthy, unhappy and inactive child.

Chiropractic is safe, inexpensive and all-natural.  It is best to try the safer and more natural route first and then if that doesn't cause improvement...look into a specialist who may have other options that work.

At my office, we make it easy.  A new patient examination and a Chiropractic adjustment can cost as little as $39.00 or a mere 10.00 co-pay and after a couple weeks of intensive care it will be obvious whether things are improving or not and then more involved methods and treatments can be looked into.  Most Chiropractors are happy to give you a referral if it becomes apparent that Chiropractic is not taking care of the Scoliosis problem.
